Wow, the walk score for my apartment is 97/100. : Since my last job was a mere four blocks from my old place (with a walk score of 83), I’ve now come to really appreciate living close to where I work. I’m definitely enjoying residing on the border of Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan.

We are Virginia Tech.

We are sad today, and we will be sad for quite a while. We are not moving on, we are embracing our mourning.

We are strong enough to stand tall tearlessly, we are brave enough to bend to cry, and we are sad enough to know that we must laugh again.

We do not understand this tragedy. We know we did nothing to deserve it, but neither does a child in Africa dying of AIDS, neither do the invisible children walking the night away to avoid being captured by the rogue army, neither does the baby elephant watching his community being devastated for ivory, neither does the Mexican child looking for fresh water, neither does the Appalachian infant killed in the middle of the night in his crib in the home his father built with his own hands, being run over by a boulder because the land was destabilized. No one deserves a tragedy.

I’m happily employed as of this past Monday. I could tell you where I work but then I’d ~~have to kill you~~ possibly be discovered by a nosey co-worker. I can say that so far I am really enjoying my new surroundings and I have some incredible colleagues. It took me about six months to find a place I felt had long-term career potential. I am beginning to believe that riding out the emotional and financial rollercoaster of being unemployed for so long was worth it.

R.I.P. Sheldon Brown, 1944 - 2008. The cycling world has lost a truly amazing man, advocate, teacher, and engineer. He is the reason I became passionate about folding bikes and cycling mechanics as an adult. His articles have been invaluable to so many. My condolences go out to his family and friends.
